Lithography is the process in which an image to be printed is rendered on a flat surface, as on a sheet of zinc or aluminum. The metal sheet, called a plate, is treated to retain ink in certain areas and to repel ink in others.
Lithography is mainly used to print thousands of copies at the same time in one production run.
